We help children blossom intellectually and emotionally while having fun along the way.

We promote the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of our students, with the goal of creating a positive sense of self-worth and independence in each individual child. Diverse religious, cultural, and family structures are respected and welcomed at Knollwood.

What Parents Are Saying
How can I put into words what you have meant to us? It is truly priceless when parents never have to worry about the care and love their children receive when they are away from us. That gift you gave us cannot be appreciated enough. Thank you for taking the best care or our babies!
Thank you for all the love, guidance and teaching you have given to all 3 of our children over the last 8 years and for helping to shape and mold our kids into these amazing little people. We won’t forget you!
In two years I have never doubted that my daughter has been left in the best hands each day. I know in my heart that no place else could have better prepared her for her journey ahead.
This school is the hidden diamond of the Valley, My girls were not only taught the necessary tools to onto kindergarten, but the teachers gave them the affectionate love they needed. It’s the dynamic among all the teachers that makes everything great.
Thank you so much for all of the wonderful years at Knollwood. I felt such as sense of happiness and peace when I dropped my son off at your school. You have created the most wonderful program I could ever imagine. I am so thankful that he had you to teach and care for him from the time he was only two years old. He was loved and learned so much.
All of your kindness and compassion creates a safe, inviting, and fun atmosphere for learning. Children blossom at Knollwood and parents feel comfortable. Founding & History
For more than 40 years, Knollwood Preschool & Kindergarten has educated the children of the San Fernando Valley with its warm, dedicated staff. Prior to founding Knollwood in 1973, Del and Betsy Stelck owned and operated four previous schools.
Dr. Del Stelck was among the founding faculty at San Fernando Valley State College. The small school grew into the renowned California State University, Northridge, where Del became a distinguished professor of American history.
Del’s wife, Betsy, began her professional career on radio and early television as the “Story Lady” and hostess of Barn Party on WNBW in Washington, D.C. A ventriloquist, Betsy used her puppets to engage and teach. After her degree in elementary education at Drake University, “Miss Betsy” taught kindergarten, first, and second grades, and continues to bring her original dolls - Cindy Lou and Bosco - to delight youngsters at Knollwood. Miss Betsy also helped organize the Head Start program in 1964, which has directly benefitted more than 25 million preschoolers.
